Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal data choicegrdfriendflick.com collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what rights you have over it.
Who we are
choicegrdfriendflick.com is published by Meridian Slate Media Ltd, Unit 4, Halbrook House, 19 Carrowgate Street, Baltic Triangle, Liverpool L1 0BQ, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law we are the data controller for the personal data described here. Privacy questions should be sent to [email protected], marked for the attention of the privacy contact, or posted to the address above.
What we collect
We collect very little. The categories are:
- Information you send us. If you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, your email address, the subject you selected and the content of your message, along with any further correspondence.
- Technical information. Our hosting provider records standard server logs when a page is requested, which typically include an IP address, the time of the request, the page requested, the referring page and a browser user-agent string. These logs exist for security and reliability.
- Cookie and consent information. Your cookie preference is stored locally in your browser so the banner does not reappear on every page. Details are in our cookie policy.
- Analytics information, where you consent. If analytics cookies are enabled by you, aggregated measurement data about page visits may be collected. We use this to understand which guides are read, not to identify individuals.
We do not sell personal data, we do not operate an advertising network, and we do not build marketing profiles of readers. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and the site is not directed at them.
Why we process it, and our lawful bases
We handle correspondence in order to answer it, relying on your consent when you tick the box on the contact form and on our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries about our published work. We keep server logs on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a secure, functioning website. We set non-essential cookies only where you have consented, and you may withdraw that consent at any time.
Processors and third parties
We rely on a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and on our instructions: a web hosting and content delivery provider, an email service provider for the address on this domain, and — where enabled and consented to — an analytics provider. Some of these providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, transfers are made under the safeguards recognised by UK law, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses with additional measures where required.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so, or where it is necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Retention
Correspondence is kept for as long as is useful to handle your enquiry and to maintain a record of corrections made to our guides, after which it is deleted. Server logs are held for a short operational period and then rotated out. Analytics data, where collected, is retained in aggregated form. Your cookie preference stays in your browser until you clear your browser storage or change your choice.
Your rights
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to be informed about our processing; to request access to the personal data we hold about you; to have inaccurate data corrected; to request erasure; to restrict or object to processing; and to data portability where it applies. Where processing rests on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of what came before.
To exercise any of these rights, email us and tell us what you would like us to do. We will respond within the statutory period. If you are unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk.
Visitors in the EEA and California
If you are in the European Economic Area, the EU General Data Protection Regulation may apply to our processing of your data, and equivalent rights to those listed above are available to you. If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended may give you rights to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in that legislation, and we do not discriminate against anyone who exercises their rights.
Security and changes
We use encrypted connections, keep administrative access to the site limited, and hold the minimum amount of personal data needed to run an editorial website. No system is perfectly secure, but the small footprint here is itself a protection.
If this policy changes materially, we will update this page. Please check it when you next contact us, so that you know the terms on which your message will be handled.
